The Different Types of Treadmills: A Buying Guide

In 2020 many of our gyms were closed due to the coronavirus. Some of them still are.

Have you braved the snow and taken your workouts outside? We tried it, which made us miss the gym even more.

To replicate that gym environment at home, it’s time to start looking for equipment. Of course, it all starts with a treadmill, the most popular piece of cardio equipment. But with so many types of treadmills available, how do you know which one to buy?

If you want to be in shape for summer, it’s time to act now. No matter what happens with gym access in 2021, you’ll be able to work out at home, any time you like.

Thinking about buying a treadmill but don’t know where to start? Read on for our quick guide to the treadmills available from each of our favourite brands.

Life Fitness Treadmills

If you’re buying a treadmill, we like the Life Fitness models. Depending on whether you want a treadmill for your home gym or a commercial gym, Life Fitness offers treadmill options for each at various price points ranging from $3,000 to $14,000.

They have all the basic specifications with an added interactive Go Console. The F3 model can also be linked to your smartphone for more in-depth workout tracking, and the T5 model monitors heart rate.

Life Span Treadmills

Life Span Fitness treadmills are our favourite home gym treadmills. Why?

They’re the ultimate space savers. There are five models to choose from, four are folding treadmills, and the last is an under-desk treadmill.

For only $1,488 CAD, you could turn your home desk into a treadmill desk and keep active while you work. The lifespan range is affordable (1500-3000 CAD) and has all the usual specifications.

However, because they’re folding treadmills, they are smaller than some of the other brands. This does mean that the maximum user weight is lower than other treadmills, varying from 200-350 pounds.

Precor Treadmills

Our final brand of choice when buying a treadmill is the Precor Fitness range. Slightly higher market, these are great for committed runners.

They’re mid-large size and also suitable for heavier users. They have LED consoles and heart rate monitoring, and you can sync your smartphone for detailed tracking.

Prices for the 223 model are around 3500 CAD, and for the 835 models, prices are around 12000 CAD. Interested in the 211, 425, or 445? Why not visit us in-store for more details?
