Rope Training

There is a new product in the fitness market that I recently tried that has me very excited. In fact, the last time I was this excited was when I discovered how amazing frozen bananas mixed with chocolate protein powder and almond milk tastes. Yes, that was an epic moment in my kitchen, and this new discovery is an epic moment in my gym.

What’s got me all worked up? Heavy ropes – the new bad asses of fitness.

First off, if you are unsure what heavy ropes are, let me give you the Coles-notes version. They are long pieces of heavy, thick rope that you loop around a sturdy object. Holding onto each end, you then proceed to shake them up and down to produce wave-like motions with the ropes.

Using the ropes is challenging, and as a stand-alone workout tool they will improve your overall strength and endurance. However, combine them with a circuit-type workout using kettlebells, dumbbells and a TRX, and you have a recipe for a hard-core body!

When you first start working with the ropes, you will be amazed at how much they recruit your core, while also demanding a lot of work from the muscles of the arms, back, shoulders and legs. In fact, heavy rope training is functional training at it’s best – and something that we all could use a little more of.
